“The musical tradition of the Universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value…As sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.” Sacrosanctum Concilium, #112
These words, written over 50 years ago, remind us of the importance of music ministry to our parish. Our rich, Catholic musical tradition is a ministry of the Word of God, made more beautiful through song. As a parish family, we invite others to share God’s word through hymns of praise so that all may experience “fully conscious and active participation” in the liturgy. (Sacrosanctum Concilium #14)
St. Lawrence Adult Choir
Our Adult Choir sings in 4-part harmony at the 9:30 am Mass on Sundays throughout the academic year and at special liturgies such as Christmas and Holy Week. Repertoire includes traditional/contemporary hymns and choral music from many different time periods.
Choir practice takes place on Thursday evenings at 7 pm.
St. Lawrence Children’s Choir (3rd grade +)
Our Children’s Choir sings at the 11:30am Mass on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Children 3rd grade and older who are interested in developing their musical talents are welcome to participate!
Children’s Choir practice takes place on Thursday afternoons at 4:00-4:45.
St. Lawrence Cantors
Our cantors provide the important ministry of proclaiming the responsorial psalm and leading hymns at all weekend Masses. If you have a confident singing voice and would like to participate in the music ministry, consider becoming a cantor!
This is a good option for those who have busy schedules and can’t commit to singing with the adult choir.
St. Lawrence Instrumentalists
When played in a dignified manner, musical instruments support the singing of the congregation during liturgical services and raise people’s minds and hearts to heaven (Sacrosanctum Concilium, #120). Parishioners who play a musical instrument are welcome to share their talent with the approval of the music coordinator.
